Cutters fail to hold down Spikes

Cutters fail to hold down Spikes.
As Evan Chambers” eighth-inning home run sailed over the blue sign advertising central Pennsylvania newspapers, Castro took off his glove and fired it off the wall. A half-inning after the Cutters tied the game, the pitching staff surrendered the lead again.

Chambers” opposite field solo home run gave the State College Spikes a 5-4 win over the Cutters on Saturday at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park. It was also the third time Saturday the Spikes gave up a lead in the top half of an inning, only to regain it in the bottom half.

Williamsport seemed to perpetually playing from behind during the Independence Day matinee. And there were plenty of chances for the Cutters to do some damage. They were just 3-for-18 with runners in scoring position, and stranded 11 runners on base, including one in eight of their nine turns at-bat.more

The Clash of Web and Traditional Advertising

The Clash of Web and Traditional Advertising.
This one is more philosophical than usual, but I think it”s an important topic for everybody in search and modern advertising and marketing to read and comment on.

I want to discuss what I”ve realized is my bias against traditional PR and marketing- in an open-minded way, as one who understands those things still have value- and also discuss the divide between digital and traditional marketing, as well asweb analytics andaccountability.

If You Learn PPC Direct Response Marketing First…

I started my advertising and marketing journey in PPC (2005) and SEO (2002′ish)… during the infancy of the shift from traditional to digital/interactive marketing. That major shift - about which I think many traditional marketers are still in denial - has also led to a shift toward greater accountability in results, and increased emphasis on marketing ROI.more

How an ad agency blew its OWN advertising budget

Auto Date Sunday, August 30th, 2009

How an ad agency blew its OWN advertising budget.
An advertising agency that was forced to take out billboards to promote themselves. The billboard in question is a multi-thousand dollar a month one on a major busy highway right outside the city in New Jersey heading into New York.

I took a rather unclear photo of it from a cell phone camera zipping by at about 60mph… so of course it”s not perfect … but you can make it out none-the-less. Feel free to click on the image to get it full size….

I personally have multiple problems with this.

1 – The first being the need to take out billboards for an advertising agency. Seldom do advertising agencies go that route, it”s too costly and very untargeted. Advertising Agencies are not a business to consumer market..more

Israel admits Tube advert map “mistake”.
He said he did not think maps should be used on billboards to advertise tourism in any country and the adverts had not been sufficiently vetted.

‘We are not tearing anything down,’ he said. But the ministry had decided to ‘fast-forward’ to the next set of posters scheduled in the campaign, after learning that there was ‘a bit of a harsh response’ to the map advert, he said.

No more map adverts would be posted, he said, and existing ones would be removed as they reached the end of their scheduled display times over the next two weeks, he said.

The Syrian Embassy in London, which had lodged its own protest, described the advert as ‘offensive’.

US President Barack Obama is trying to kick-start talks to reach an negotiated agreement creating a state of Palestine in the West Bank and Gaza, although Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has not signed up to the idea.more

Possibility Is Not Probability in Korea

Possibility Is Not Probability in Korea.
In the meantime, our attention is focused on the moment”s colorful, attractive, pleasing appeals of you-can-do-it psychology and advertisement, on the one man who made it than the 8 million who didn”t.

How do we, then, explain those few individual heroes and inventers and geniuses who have made extraordinary accomplishments with their actions and ideas? How do we explain the Napoleons, the Edisons or Beethovens?

We have no way of explaining how these individuals did what they did. Otherwise, we would simply re-create all the Napoleons, Edisons and Beethovens we need at will.

Our modern social theories can explain what is only probable, not what is possible. We can predict that Worker X will report to work tomorrow, and many economic and behavioral theories will explain or predict this; but we cannot explain, and there is no theory for it, how Worker X might turn out to be a mass murderer, or kill himself.more

Claire Beale on Advertising: Britain”s got talent, but no winners.
A yellow D&AD pencil is one of the shiniest awards you can win as an advertising creative. And if you”re really, really good you might come home with an elusive black pencil. And then you can really kick back for a few pampered years; gongs don”t come much better than a black.

So, every year British agencies put on their cleanest T-shirts and line up in hope of a D&AD handout. But the pot for the Brits has been getting smaller and smaller. Of the 54 pencils presented this year, British agencies got four. That”s three fewer than the Americans, and two of theirs were big black ones.

Bartle Bogle Hegarty won in the online category for its ‘Break The Cycle’ work for Barnardo”s; Mother won in the writing for advertising category for its ‘Orange Goldspots’ cinema campaign; DDB scooped two yellows, one in press, one in posters, for its Wallace and Gromit ads for Harvey Nichols Bristol.more

Maxatawny supervisors OK advertising comprehensive plan for vote.
The two boroughs adopted the plan last year, but Maxatawny rejected it last June because it had outdated maps. Getting updated maps took a year. The supervisors also had taken issue with the plan”s appendix because it included opinions that they did not feel belonged. The joint plan is a product of more than five years” work and addresses land use and historical preservation. The supervisors also voted 3-0 to Wednesday to apply for a $20,000 state grant to help pay for a new $82,000 pavilion at William Delong Memorial Park. - By Karyn H. Feick .more
